About
Andrew

Andrew DeYoung is a writer and director who has garnered acclaim for his television and short form work. He has directed multiple episodes, spanning several seasons, of the revered Hulu series PEN 15 as well as SHRILL, starring Aidy Bryant. Other notable directing credits include Dave, The Other Two, Teenage Bounty Hunters, Man Seeking Woman, High Fidelity, Miracle Workers, and Baby-Sitters Club. In the digital space, Andrew executive produced, co-created, and directed the Gotham Award nominated Vimeo series 555, starring Kate Berlant & John Early.

His shorts have been VIMEO STAFF PICKs six times, and have amassed significant press attention and a rabid online following. Andrew most recently directed the season one finale and three season 2 episodes of the HBO MAX series Our Flag Means Death, executive produced by Taika Waititi, and Decameron, the Netflix series from the creator of Orange is the New Black set in 1348 during the Black Death.

His sketch comedy Would It Kill You to Laugh was nominated for an Emmy and his first feature film Friendship - an A24 production - starring Paul Rudd, Tim Robinson, and Kate Mara was released to rave reviews with some calling it "one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my entire life." Not bad huh.

Most recently however, Andrew collaborated with Tim Robinson once again in HBO's The Chair Company. This time Andrew and Tim explore the underbelly of a (you guessed it) chair company following an embarrassing and traumatising collapse that leaves William "Ron" Trosper searching for answers. Much like Andrew's other work, this show is not to be missed. Utterly hilarious, completely surreal, Andrew to the core.
