Karien Cherry

Karien is one of Outsider’s most well-travelled directors. Born in Malawi and raised in Zimbabwe, Karien was a globetrotting theatre performer before time in LA set her heart on becoming a film director – as it has for so many.

But Karien is more determined than most. She returned to Africa, went to film school, and has been highly prolific ever since, using her ever-broadening life experience to create a diverse and distinctive body of work. She loves creating rich cinematic worlds and working with actors to craft powerful and nuanced performances, ranging from the comedic to the deeply emotive. Her open personality and collaborative nature make her a hit with agencies and clients alike, and have been instrumental in her achieving both viral fame and international recognition. 

She also lives in Cape Town and swims in the ocean every morning. As if we weren’t jealous enough…
